A941 Craigellachie to Dufftown

The introduction of 20mph limit should be part of the delivery of a much wider road safety package for Craigellachie and should not be looked at as the only solution, which it is not.

The boundary of the village needs to be extended 100m beyond the Craigellachie Cooperage Entrance for visitors to a 30mph limit. On the approach to this 30mph limit there needs to be sharks teeth warnings signs on the road advising drivers of the 30mph limit. This location gives drivers much more warning of the speed reduction than the present location. It gives LGV's ,forestry, quarry vehicles and cars a realistic distance to slow down before entering the village.

A footpath needs to be placed on the wide grass verge up to the Cooperage so employees and visitors can walk to this large local employer and visitor attraction safely.

On the approach to the present 30 mph signage the sharks tooth warning signs should be repainted and it should be changed to 20mph. The next 200m of road there is a turn right across traffic into a large residential area of Craigellachie, the filling station and village shop on the right and this area is the pick and drop off for senior pupils travelling by bus twice per day in every season. It is a high risk area for pedestrians and car users. 200m further on there is another right turn across traffic for a distillery and access to the road to the village school and village hall.

20mph signs should be placed throughout Edward Avenue and Hill Street to the entrance point to Craigellachie Lodge. Large 20 mph signs with sharks teeth warnings on the road for drivers entering the village from the A95.

The A941 /A95 junction needs to be made a Stop not a Give Way to reduce the accidents and daily near miss situations. On the approach to the junction signage should be in place to warn of cars waiting. Consideration should be made into digging a short escape lane of deep gravel to catch cars swerving across the grass verge when they find cars queued. The verges need to cut back so drivers can see both ways. Road managers for the A95 and the A941 need to agree their responsibilities and carry them out. These are not newly adopted roads, there should be no doubt.

I suggest the consideration and discussion with the community of these measures, along with the 20mph limit, will make the roads safer for residents visitors and drivers.
