I don’t think a blanket approach is a good idea as has been shown in Wales where they implemented it and have now had to back track.

A 20mph limit in villages where there are no footpaths seems like a sensible idea but in places where pedestrians can walk safely on pavements, all reducing the speed limit will do is cause congestion and frustration. Nairn Is a great example, the traffic crawls through causing congestion which in turn leads to more pollution from cars churning out fumes.

Journey times up in Moray are lengthened considerably compared to other areas as it is due to the limited and poor road network. Every day you see the frustration this causes on the roads with drivers taking risks which often don’t pay off. Consider what percentage of incidents happen in the current 30mph zones and what impact on accident reduction has reducing Nairn (for example) to 20 mph had?

The accident data in Moray should be properly analysed to see where incidents are occurring and mitigation measures put in place in these problem areas to try to reduce the injury and death toll in Moray.

One size doesn’t fit all!
