Needs to be carefully implemented
I agree with 20mph along residential streets; however, I don't believe there is any place for it on A, B or other primary routes (Lermurdie Road, Morriston Road, etc) around town. These routes should be kept at least 30mph to ensure traffic is able to flow freely around the town's arterial routes.
I also note there are a few places on the map where there are several limit changes within a relatively short space.
A few examples;
- North Street, Elgin drops down to 20mph for less than 1/4 mile.
- Pansport Road is 20mph for less than 1/4 mile
- Hopeman to Burghead contains 6 different limits in less than 2 miles.
I think this should be avoided entirely, as it will only fuel confusion amongst drivers about what speed they should be doing and may result in more attention being paid to the dashboard rather than the road ahead.
On another note, I would like to see the 40mph limits on the A941 north and south of Elgin extended to encompass the new housing estates that have been built here. I see from the map that this has already been done on Duffus Road, despite no building work yet being started on the estate going in there.
