Workforce Mobility: Supporting Better Travel for Moray’s Workforce
Workforce Mobility: Supporting Better Travel for Moray’s Workforce
A New Partnership for Smarter Bus Services in Moray
Moray Council’s Bus Revolution project has partnered with the Workforce Mobility team from the Edinburgh & South East Scotland Regional Growth Deal to undertake a detailed analysis of how people in Moray travel — particularly for work.
By combining Moray-specific data with advanced mobility analysis tools, this partnership will help us:
- Understand real movement patterns using new and more accurate mobile data.
- Assess whether the current bus network is structurally fit for purpose, including how well it connects people to jobs, education, and essential services.
- Identify gaps and opportunities where services could be better aligned with when and where residents actually travel.
- Strengthen engagement with local employers to unlock a clearer picture of commuting needs.
These insights will enable more targeted proposals, more efficient routings, and improved connectivity for the people of Moray. However, achieving this depends on high‑quality data and ongoing participation from local businesses.
Why Employers Should Get Involved
Better commutes through better data - Encouraging sustainable travel is one of the most effective ways employers in Scotland can support a healthier, more resilient, and greener future. By enabling your staff to walk, cycle, use public transport, or share journeys, you can:
- Reduce congestion around your workplaces
- Lower emissions and contribute to net-zero commitments
- Support staff well-being and reduce travel-related stress
- Improve recruitment by widening your accessible talent pool
- Boost retention by supporting fair, flexible, and affordable travel choices
Your input is essential. When employers participate, the data becomes richer, the insights more accurate, and the resulting transport improvements far more effective.
How We Help Employers
1. You provide the data - Share a simple spreadsheet (template provided) containing:
- anonymised employee postcodes,
- worksite locations,
- shift patterns or working hours.
2. We analyse sustainable travel options - Using bespoke public transport analysis tools, we map viable and realistic sustainable commuting options for your workforce.
3. You receive tailored insights - We deliver an easy‑to‑use report plus a Sustainable Incentives Factsheet to help your employees make greener, healthier travel choices.
4. We inform wider transport improvements - With your permission, anonymised insights are shared with Moray council’s transport planning teams to help shape future improvements to the network — based on real commuting behaviour.
5. Ready to get started?
Please take a moment to read the Project Sharing Data Protocol, which you’ll find on the left‑hand side of this page. Once you’re happy and have agreed to it, simply complete the Mobility Project Template.
When both documents are finished, email them to m.connectadmin@moray.gov.uk.
We look forward to hearing from you and working together.
