Commerce Street Play Park Renewal, Lossiemouth
Moray Council has allocated a budget of £90,000 to carry out a partial renewal of play equipment and to improve the safety surfacing in the play park on Commerce Street (known locally as the Beach Bar Park). The funding made available from the Scottish Government’s Play Renewal Fund will provide £80,000 for new equipment and £10,000 for landscaping and ground works to remove the existing equipment foundations. This Park has been identified as one of four play parks in Moray for renewal in the 2025-2026 financial year. The funding is to be used to replace equipment primarily for children aged 5-12.
The large climbing frame and the toddler climbing frame have been removed, and the swing set is at end of life and will be removed just prior to the installation of the new equipment beginning. The recently installed zipline, the see-saw, bowl roundabout and embankment slide are in good condition and will be kept.
Lossiemouth Community Council, Lossiemouth Community Development Trust and other community representatives are working with Moray Council throughout this process. This renewal will be completed using a participatory budgeting approach meaning that the community of Lossiemouth have the opportunity to influence the project scope of service (the description of what style of play we would like designers to provide) and to vote for their preferred design.
The chosen play park design will be installed by March 2027.
