Consultation has concluded

The survey was open from 9-27 March 2026

We heard from 26 young carers in Moray, aged 18 and under, about what life is like for them.

Many young carers told us that caring can make school harder. Some said it affects getting to school on time, keeping up with work, or feeling able to concentrate. Some young carers get good support in school, but others said people don't always understand what life is like at home.

A lot of young carers said they would like:

  • More understanding from teachers and other people
  • Someone to talk to
  • More support that they can rely on
  • More breaks, trips and fun activities
  • More time to relax and just be a young person without caring responsibilities

Some young carers said it helps to meet other young carers who understand what they are going through. Others preferred more private support or did not want people to know they are a carer.

Young carers also told us that support from services can be different for everyone. Some people had really positive experiences, while others said support was hard to access, took too long, or did not always follow through.

Overall, young carers told us they want to feel:

  • Seen
  • Heard
  • Understood
  • Supported
