Cummingston (Hopeman & Burghead) Speeding
This makes it not only difficult but hazardous at times to manoeuvre in & out of driveways & sideroads.
During periods of heavy rainfall a lot of hill run-off causes flooding down the road from higher up the village down past Back Street & Seaview Road. Vehicles travelling even at the present speed limit spray large volumes of water up over the pavement, garden & house walls/windows which causes its own issues but from a safety point of view it makes using the pavement on that side - (right if coming from Burghead) impossible, with those living, visiting, catching a bus on that side of the road at high risk as you cannot get out the way. With the speeding that does regularly occur it is downright dangerous, having personally been soaked head to toe more than once when needing to come out of our drive, realising that the vehicle approaching is not going to slow & retreating even half-way back up our drive we still get soaked.
It isn’t only cars that speed through the village, heavy lorries also regularly speed causing vibrations that can be felt throughout the property.
There have been several accidents in the village, all can be attributed to speeding.
It would also help if the 40mph between Hopeman & Cummingston and Cummingston down into Burghead could be reduced to 30mph, even moving Burghead’s current 30mph signs out of the village to at least before the turn to Roseisle to improve the safety at these 2 junctions.
Reducing the speed limits for all these reasons should go a long way to mitigating all the issues experienced not just in our village but hopefully throughout all 3 villages I‘ve mentioned.
