Moray Council recognised we are in a climate and ecological emergency in 2019 and reaffirmed this by declaring a nature emergency in 2023.

All public bodies in Scotland have a duty to take positive action and decisions around nature as they carry out their responsibilities. The draft Biodiversity Strategy brings together the many areas of work which Moray Council impacts on, influences, or benefits from nature, including:

  • Open space management such as parks, woodlands, cemeteries, school grounds, council housing, road verges and play areas, and core paths
  • Spatial planning, policy and decisions and flood risk management.
  • Connecting young people with nature through delivery of Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence in Outdoor Learning, Learning for Sustainability and Learning Estate Strategy.

We are currently seeking feedback on the Draft Moray Council Biodiversity Strategy through an open survey until 28 November 2025. Please use the link below to share your views.

An interactive Nature Network map will be added to this page soon, so please sign up for updates.
