Moray Council recognised we are in a climate and ecological emergency in 2019 and reaffirmed this by declaring a nature emergency in 2023.

All public bodies in Scotland have a duty to take positive action and decisions around nature as they carry out their responsibilities. The draft Biodiversity Strategy brings together the many areas of work which Moray Council impacts on, influences, or benefits from nature, including:

  • Open space management such as parks, woodlands, cemeteries, school grounds, council housing, road verges and play areas, and core paths
  • Spatial planning, policy and decisions and flood risk management.
  • Connecting young people with nature through delivery of Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence in Outdoor Learning, Learning for Sustainability and Learning Estate Strategy.

Thank you for your feedback on the Draft Moray Council Biodiversity Strategy. The survey is now closed and responses will be used to inform the final version due to be published later this year. Please follow this project to stay up to date.

The draft strategy embeds the council's plan to develop a Moray Nature Network. To explore the interactive map, please visit the Proposed Moray Nature Network storymap.
