Making sure that the places where we live, work and spend time are safe and feel safe for everyone is a priority for the Moray Community Safety partners. The places we live, and the lives we live within them, are improved when we have a good sense of community safety. This can include thinking about how things like money, social connections, and the physical environment affect people’s safety.

If you live in Buckie you are invited to share your views through the survey below, and at face-to-face "listening events" to help shape long-term solutions to local concerns.

How Good is Our Place? is part of a national pilot project, with Moray Community Safety partners working alongside Public Health Scotland and the Scottish Community Safety Network. It’s all about helping local people have a stronger voice in shaping the places they live and work in—making them safer, more welcoming, and full of life.

As part of the pilot we will be using the Place Standard Tool, but with an added focus on community safety. The Place Standard Tool has been widely used in Scotland since 2015. It helps people talk about what’s working well in their area and what could be better, but has not previously focussed on community safety. The Tool looks at 14 different themes—like buildings, transport, safety, jobs, and how involved people feel in local decisions.

When people feel safe in their communities, their quality of life improves. To make this happen, we need to come together—local residents, community groups, and organisations alike—to identify and tackle any challenges that no one can solve alone. By working together, we can come up with creative ideas, look at how we can use our resources wisely, and address any problems at their roots.
