As part of planning the future adult short breaks service, we want to understand what families need and value.

About short breaks (respite) service

The short breaks service offers adults with learning disabilities the chance to enjoy a safe, supportive stay away from home. At the same time, families and carers benefit from a much-needed opportunity to rest and recharge.

Overnight residential short breaks are provided at Birchview in Elgin. Care and support is delivered by Cornerstone under a contract with Health & Social Care Moray.

The current contract ends in March 2027. In line with procurement regulations, we must advertise the contract and invite organisations to apply to deliver it. A new short breaks contract will be awarded by the end of 2026.

There will be opportunities for you and your family to help inform the design of the future service and the decisions around awarding the contract.

Why we’re asking for your views

Your views will help us make sure we have in place the right short breaks service that best meets the needs of adults with learning disabilities and their families and provides a positive experience for everyone.

This questionnaire is not about changing the amount of short breaks available. It is about what the service should look like based on what matters to you.

We will combine responses to look for common themes and learning. Individual comments will not be linked to, or used to identify, you or your family member.

You can choose to give your name at the end of the questionnaire if you would like to:

  • Receive feedback on what we learned from this questionnaire.
  • Be involved in the next stage of designing the future short breaks service.

How to take part

Please use the relevant survey link below to share your experiences and suggestions.

The closing date for responses is Monday 23 March 2026.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views. Your feedback will help shape adult short breaks (respite) service for the future.
