We are consulting on how we collect rent and support tenants who fall into arrears. This is an important consultation, and we want to know your views. As our tenant, your opinions matter to us. By giving us your opinions, you are helping to shape decisions that affect your home and how we deliver services to you.

The revised Rent Management Policy sets out the framework that we follow to collect rent and prevent and support rent arrears management. We hope that by reviewing the Rent Management Policy we will:

  • work positively with tenants to reduce the amount of unpaid rent and help them to stay in their homes.
  • make sure tenants understand their rent responsibilities from the start of their tenancy.
  • check rent accounts and offer tenants help at an early stage to avoid arrears.
  • signpost tenants to more specialist help when needed. For example, benefits help and money advice.
  • support tenants if they have rent arrears.
  • only use legal action as a last resort, when all other options have been tried.
