Moray Council has allocated a budget of £100,000 to renew the play equipment and to improve the safety surfacing in Greenwards play park. The play park is located on HRA (Housing Revenue Account) land. The HRA is a ring-fenced account funded by the rent paid by Council tenants.

The funding made available from the HRA provides for new equipment and ground works to remove the existing equipment foundations. The funding is to be used to replace equipment primarily for children aged 5-12.

The climbing frame, toddler climbing frame and springer have been removed already. The swing set is at the end of life and will be removed just before the new equipment is installed.

This renewal will be completed using a participatory budgeting approach meaning that the local community will have the opportunity to influence the project scope of service (the description of what style of play we would like designers to provide) and to vote for their preferred design.

The chosen play park design will be installed by March 2027.

Work to remove the remaining old play equipment is due to start during the week beginning 17 August. The swings will be left until last, so they are available for as long as possible.

The installation of the new play equipment has been delayed and is now expected to take place in October. This is due to the supplier's installation schedule.

We know many local families are looking forward to the new play park and appreciate your patience while the work is completed. We'll share a confirmed installation date as soon as we have one.

We're excited to share that the new play park is a step closer!

The remaining old equipment is expected to be removed from mid-August, with installation of the new equipment due to start in the first two weeks of September.

Once work begins, it should take around three weeks to complete, although this will depend on weather conditions and there being no unexpected delays.

After the new equipment has been installed, the play area will go through the usual final safety checks before it opens to the public. We'll share another update on opening arrangements as the project progresses.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the project so far. We're excited to see the new play area taking shape and look forward to sharing more updates over the coming weeks.

We’re pleased to announce that the contract for the new play park has been awarded to Sutcliffe.

Children from Greenwards Primary School and Jack and Jill Nursery were able to cast their votes on four design options, alongside the online public vote for the wider community.

All the designs were checked by our Open Spaces Playground Maintenance Team. The final decision was based on the combined public vote, the technical assessment, and input from a community steering group made up of local residents.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote and share their views. We’ll provide further updates, including the project timeline soon.
